Remembering Ray Gordon

Ray Gordon, the man whom we named the 60-mile race after, unfortunately, passed away on August 4th, 2023. He had a long-standing relationship with the American Dog Derby and was a long-time lover of this great sport.

He lived in Rock Springs, Wyoming, and was known as the “Grand Old Master” in the longer-range events.  In Ashton, he won the 100-mile race in 1995 with 10 dogs.  He then won the 80-mile race with 6 dogs in 1997, 1999, and 2000.  In 2003 he won the 80-mile race again, this time with 8 dogs. That made his 5th win, which no one else in recent years has come close to equating. He has also run in the Iditarod - twice.
